FAQ
Who is eligible for the Placer TTSD loan program?
The program is available to residential property owners within the Placer County service area who are classified as an "Eligible Homeowner" by Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD).
TTSD will directly verify your eligibility status when you initiate the application process.
How do I apply for the loan?
To start the process, you must contact Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD) directly by calling 530-583-7800 or emailing bearboxadmin@waste101.com.
Once TTSD confirms you are an eligible homeowner, you can select an approved model from our Lake Tahoe Bundles collection, sign your loan promissory note, and complete the responsibility agreement.
What happens after my application is approved?
Once approved, TTSD will contact you via email notifying you that you have been approved.
Forward this email from TTSD along with your signed Responsibilities Form, to info@bearbox.org so we can process your order for installation.
How much funding does the loan provide?
TTSD provides up to $2,200 toward the cost of the Bear Box. The homeowner is responsible for the amount exceeding $2,200.
Are there additional costs I should know about?
The TTSD loan will cover up to $2,200. The homeowner will pay the remaining balance exceeding $2,200 directly to Tahoe Bear Box through a secure payment link prior to your scheduled install date.
Which Tahoe Bear Box models are approved under the loan program?
All 2-can and 3-can Tahoe Series and Econo Series models are approved.
The purchase must be for the Local Area Bundle, which includes the box, onsite installation, delivery, pedestal mount, and hardware kit.
Can I choose my installation date?
No. In order to provide timely and efficient service across the Lake Tahoe area, we do not offer exact appointment scheduling.
However, your installer will contact you 1-2 days in advance with an estimated timeframe for when they will be onsite.
Where should the Bear Box be placed on my property?
Based on the TTSD guidelines, the Bear Box enclosure must be located a minimum of 15 feet from the edge of the pavement to maintain clear sightline visibility according to Placer County Department of Public Works standards.
Our installation team will guide you through the process after your order is placed to ensure your new Bear Box is installed in a compliant location on your property.
What happens after installation?
Once your Tahoe Bear Box is securely installed, TTSD will issue a direct payment to us to cover the loan portion of your enclosure.
You will then begin repaying the 0% interest loan automatically via structured payments added to your quarterly garbage bills.
