What is the Tahoe BearBox enclosure, and how does it protect against bears?
The Tahoe BearBox is a durable, bear-resistant enclosure designed to keep your trash secure and wildlife out. Its innovative latch design and sturdy construction prevents bears and other wildlife from breaking in, reducing the likelihood of dangerous encounters and protecting your property.
What materials are the BearBox enclosures made of?
Tahoe BearBoxes are built to last with premium, weather-resistant materials. Each enclosure features a durable Dupont powder coat that protects against fading, peeling, and corrosion caused by UV exposure and harsh weather.
For long-term reliability, the doors are equipped with rust-proof stainless-steel hinges and pins that ensure smooth operation and will never rust, even in Lake Tahoe's extreme conditions. This rugged design keeps your BearBox secure and lookinggreat year after year.
Are Tahoe BearBoxes compatible with all trash cans?
All BearBox models are designed to fit most standard trash and recycling bins. If you use non-standard bins, please check the dimensions to ensure proper fit before placing your order.
Does the BearBox come with trash cans?
Yes! Tahoe Series Local Area Bundles include heavy-duty Rubbermaid trash cans. Depending on the Tahoe Series model you choose, your BearBox will come with two or three 30-gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck trash cans—durable and designed to fit perfectly inside your enclosure for maximum convenience and bear-proof protection.
*Econo Series models do not include trash cans. Local Area Bundles for residents in the city of Arnold do not include trash cans.
Do I need additional hardware or accessories for my BearBox?
When you purchase a Local Area Bundle, everything you need is included. Your bundle comes with a pedestal mount, a complete hardware kit, and professional onsite installation to ensure your BearBox is securely installed and built to last for years of reliable operation.
Are BearBoxes compliant with local regulations and wildlife guidelines?
Yes, Tahoe BearBoxes meet or exceed local wildlife safety standards and are certified by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee.
What is included in a Local Area Bundle?
The Local Area Bundle includes the BearBox enclosure, the pedestal mount, all necessary hardware for standard installation, delivery within our service area, and onsite installation by an authorized Tahoe BearBox Installer.
Is installation included in the price?
Installation is included in the Local Area Bundles only.
Do I need a pedestal mount or a concrete slab mount?
For most properties, a pedestal mount is the ideal choice and provides strong, long-lasting support. However, if your property is located at a higher elevation (above 7,000 ft) where heavy snow accumulation is common, we recommend a concrete slab mount for extra durability and stability against the added weight of snow and ice.
Installation
Do you offer installation in my area?
We offer professional onsite installation through our authorized installers in the Lake Tahoe area, Carson City, and the city of Arnold. If you're located outside of these areas, contact us for a custom installation quote.
Where should the BearBox be installed on my property?
Your BearBox will be installed at your preferred location specified in your Site Installation Details Form, provided it complies with local regulations and safety guidelines. We recommend choosing a spot that’s convenient for your household and waste management needs.
If your chosen location isn’t suitable due to local codes or underground utility restrictions, our installers will suggest alternative placements that meet compliance requirements while keeping accessibility in mind. Marking your desired installation area in advance is helpful but not required.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare my property for installation?
After placing your order, you'll receive a Site Installation Details Form via email. Please complete it as soon as possible so we can review your information and schedule your installation. If you'd like to mark the exact spot for your BearBox, that's helpful but not required.
Can I use my BearBox immediately after it’s installed?
No. It's important to allow the concrete base to fully cure before using your BearBox. This prevents shifting or settling, which can cause misalignment. Please wait 48 hours after installation before placing any trash inside.
How long does it take to install a BearBox?
A standard BearBox installation typically takes about 1 hour. Our trained installers work efficiently to ensure a secure and long-lasting setup.
What is included in the installation service?
When you purchase a Local Area Bundle, it includes everything you need for a secure installation: delivery of your BearBox, onsite installation by our expert installers, the pedestal mount, and a complete hardware kit. This ensures your BearBox is properly installed and ready for long-term use.
Can I install the BearBox myself, or does it require professional installation?
While it’s possible to install the BearBox yourself, we highly recommend professional installation to ensure it’s secure and properly anchored.
DIY installation requires concrete work, leveling, and correct placement to meet safety and durability standards. Our professional service guarantees that your BearBox is installed to OEM standards for years of reliabiable service.
What happens after I place my order for a Local Area Bundle?
Once your order is placed, you'll immediately receive the Site Installation Details Form. After you complete and submit the form, our team will review your information and contact you to schedule your installation.
Can I schedule an installation date?
In order to provide timely and efficient service across the Lake Tahoe area, we do not offer exact appointment scheduling. However, your installer will contact you in advance with an estimated timeframe for when they will be onsite.
Do I need to be present during the installation?
No, you do not need to be present for the installation of your BearBox. Our professional installers are fully equipped to complete the installation without the homeowner being onsite. However, if you have specific placement preferences, we require marking the installation spot or providing clear instructions in the Installation Site Details Form.
Inventory & Lead Time
Is the Tahoe BearBox currently in stock?
Yes! We maintain a large inventory of BearBox enclosures locally to ensure we can fulfill orders quickly and accommodate our customers without long wait times.
What does it mean if a product is on backorder, and can I still place an order?
If a product is on backorder, it means it's temporarily out of stock but will be restocked soon. You can still place your order to reserve your BearBox, and we’ll prioritize your installation as soon as it becomes available.
If I place an order today, when can I expect my BearBox to be installed?
Once your order is placed and your Site Installation Details Form is submitted, we typically complete installation within 5-7 business days, weather permitting. Delays may occur during severe winter conditions, but we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
Will I be notified when my order is ready for delivery and installation?
Yes! After we receive and review your completed Site Installation Details Form, one of our authorized installers will contact you with an estimated installation window. Once your BearBox is installed, you’ll receive a confirmation email letting you know the job is complete.
Warranty & Service
What kind of warranty does the Tahoe BearBox come with?
Every new BearBox is backed by our 1-Year Tahoe BearBox Total Protection Warranty, which covers both parts and labor. This warranty ensures your BearBox operates reliably and gives you peace of mind.
How do I request a repair or replacement under the warranty?
To request a repair or replacement, email us at support@bearbox.org with your name, address, phone number, and a detailed description of the issue. Please include clear photos or videos showing the problem so our team can assist you quickly.
Are repairs covered under the warranty, and what is the process?
Most repairs related to manufacturing defects or normal wear and tear are covered under our warranty. However, damage from improper self-installation, vehicle impact, or misuse is not covered. Once you submit your service request, our team will review it and schedule any necessary repairs.
Does the warranty cover damages caused by bears or other wildlife?
No, the warranty does not cover damage caused by bears or other wildlife. Our BearBoxes are designed to be highly durable, but intentional misuse or wildlife-related damage falls outside of warranty coverage.
Is there any maintenance required for my BearBox after installation?
Yes. Regular maintenance helps keep your BearBox in top condition. Contact us at support@bearbox.org to request our recommended service checklist for routine care and upkeep.
I have an old BearBox unit. Can it be refurbished?
Possibly. Refurbishment depends on the model, age, and the extent of repairs needed. In some cases, upgrading to the latest BearBox model may be more cost-effective and ensures you get all of the most advanced bear-resistant features.
I have an old BearBox model with the old latch design, and bears have figured out how to open it. Can this be fixed?
Yes! Our LatchGuard Upgrade Program is available exclusively for existing Tahoe BearBox owners. A certified technician will retrofit your BearBox latch with the latest bear-resistant latch design. Purchase the Latch Upgrade Service online here to schedule your upgrade.

What are the payment options for purchasing a BearBox?
All orders must be paid in full before installation. We accept all major credit cards and personal checks. If you prefer to pay by check, please mail your payment to:

Can I pay in installments, or is full payment required upfront?
We currently do not offer payment plans. Full payment is required upfront to secure your order and schedule installation.
Is financing available for BearBox purchases?
At this time, we do not offer financing options. Full payment must be made prior to installation.
Can you provide me with a formal invoice for my purchase?
Yes. Once your order is placed, you will automatically receive a formal PDF invoice detailing your purchase and payment. If you need another copy, just contact us at support@bearbox.org.
Shipping & Delivery
I live outside of the Lake Tahoe area. Do you offer shipping to my area?
Yes. If you live outside of the Lake Tahoe area, we offer freight shipping across the USA through reputable carriers. Simply place your order on our website and pay the $25 freight shipping deposit at checkout. Within 1–2 business days, we’ll provide you with a custom freight shipping quote. Once the shipping fee is paid, we’ll promptly ship your BearBox.
How much does it cost to ship a BearBox?
Shipping costs vary depending on your location, order size, transit time, and chosen carrier. We work with all the major freight carriers to ensure safe delivery. For a personalized quote, email us at info@bearbox.org with your name, shipping address, and details about the product you’re interested in.
Will you notify me before delivery?
Yes. If you’ve purchased a Local Area Bundle, one of our professional installers will contact you by phone prior to delivery and installation to notify you of the timeframe and any final details. You are not required to be present during the installation.
What should I expect on the day of delivery?
On delivery day, our installer will arrive and complete your BearBox installation in about one hour. Please make sure that no vehicles or obstacles are blocking the driveway or the designated installation area. For added clarity, you’re welcome to mark the exact spot where you’d like your BearBox installed.
Winter Installation Policy
What is the Winter Installation Policy?
Our Winter Installation Policy ensures your BearBox is installed during the winter season, even in snowy conditions! By paying the $250 Winter Installation Surcharge, you’ll receive snow removal of up to 18" inches to make installation hassle-free. Additional charges may apply if snow or ice exceeds this amount.
*Please note that the "Pay In Full" option is required at checkout for winter installations.
Can you install my BearBox during the winter?
Yes, we can install your BearBox during the winter! Winter installations require specialized equipment and expertise due to snow, ice, and frozen ground conditions, which may increase pricing.
Is there an extra charge for winter installation?
Yes, there is an additional cost for winter installations due to the added complexity and equipment needed, starting at $250. This includes removing up to 18" of snow. If additional snow or ice removal is needed, additional charges will apply.
I need a BearBox installed ASAP. How soon can you have my box installed?
Winter installations can take slightly longer to schedule because we need to assess ground conditions at your property conditions and ensure safe installation. Once your order is placed and we receive your completed Installation Site Details Form, we’ll aim to schedule your installation within 7-10 business days, depending on weather conditions.
What happens if bad weather delays my installation?
If severe weather makes installation unsafe or unsuitable, we will reschedule the installation for the next available day, weather permitting. Your safety and the quality of the installation are our top priorities.
Can you guarantee my BearBox will be installed before a specific date?
We strive to meet your deadlines, but winter weather can be unpredictable. We’ll do our best to work within your timeline and the weather conditions but cannot guarantee a specific date.
